Signature Programs
Affinity Celebrations
Capital University takes pride in the rich diversity of perspectives and cultures represented on our campus. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion supports and amplifies the efforts of identity-based student clubs and organizations, fostering an environment where students can express and celebrate their unique identities.
Throughout the year, students are invited to engage in a variety of programs that honor cultural awareness and inclusivity. These events include, but are not limited to, Diwali, Latinx Heritage Month, Indigenous Peoples’ Month, Kwanzaa Celebrations, Transgender Day of Remembrance, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Disability Awareness Month, Pride Month, and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
We encourage all members of the campus community to actively participate, learn, and promote these programs, contributing to a vibrant and inclusive campus culture.
Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Learning
For over three decades, Capital University has been committed to recognizing, celebrating, and embodying the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Rather than treating this day as a "day off," we encourage our campus and community members to engage in a "day on" — a day to be inspired by Dr. King’s vision, reflect on his contributions to civil rights, and actively participate in community-building efforts.
Pizza and the Paper
Pizza and the Paper is a student-led, informal forum designed to provide a space for students to explore and discuss current events, social justice issues, and community topics that interest them. Held bi-weekly, the program encourages students to take the lead in discussions that inspire meaningful action.
Smooth Transitions
Smooth Transitions is a pre-Welcome Weekend program designed to support the successful introduction, matriculation, and retention of students from underrepresented communities, first-generation students, and those seeking an earlier campus introduction. Participants are oriented to campus resources, faculty, and staff while engaging in programming that introduces them to student life at Capital. In addition to support from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), each student is paired with a Smooth Transitions Mentor, who will provide guidance and support during their first two semesters.
